3 Tips for Choosing the Best Toaster Oven

Saturday, August 23, 2014

If you're thinking about buying a new toaster oven, you certainly have a lot of options available to you. Modern countertop ovens have many more features, than the ones of the past, including digital timers and controls, multiple functions and various accessories. One of the big advantages of using a smaller oven is that it is far more energy-efficient than using a traditional wall oven. Following are some guidelines for helping you choose the best toaster oven to fit your needs.

 1.) Size

Toaster and convection ovens come in a wide variety of sizes. There are some that take up very little space and others that require more room. The smaller, compact ovens may fit in a large cupboard when not in use, while the larger ones will need to have a permanent home on a counter. When selecting a new oven, take into consideration the space you have available to work with. It's helpful to measure out your available counter space ahead of time, so you're not disappointed if the oven takes up more space than you had planned for.

 2.) Functions

Today's modern toaster ovens offer a wide array of functions. While all ovens can broil and toast, today's appliances also offer additional features like convection baking and rotisserie functions. When considering your options, think about what you'll be using the oven for. If you're planning to use it as a second oven, or a replacement to a traditional oven, you'll want more functionality than if you're simply toasting slices of bread or bagels.

There are also many choices when it comes to user controls. Some ovens offer digital touchpad functions, while many offer simple, knob dial controls. If a timer or exact temperature control are important to you, you'll want to carefully research ovens to be sure the oven has the features you need.

 3.) Price

Along with the wide variety of features available, the price range for toaster ovens also varies dramatically. A simple oven can be purchased for less than $50, while a larger oven that features a convection fan or rotisserie can set you back a few hundred dollars. Again, you'll want to carefully consider what you'll be using the oven for. If you merely need to be able to toast bread or heat up the occasional piece of pizza, a less expensive oven will work perfectly. There's no sense paying for features that you won't be using, so be sure to read the descriptions carefully and understand what you're getting.

Like most kitchen appliances, toaster ovens have been improved dramatically over the years. Using a smaller, countertop appliance can save you money on your electric bill, since it uses less energy than a traditional oven. In addition, today's modern toaster ovens are incredibly attractive and lend a professional look to any kitchen.
